UKARIA 24, curated by Diana Doherty

'What a privilege to have this opportunity to share with you music that is beautiful and meaningful to me, in such a beautiful and meaningful setting. As I reflect on what it is that music brings to our lives I see that in so many ways, UKARIA itself is the embodiment of those things – togetherness, curiosity, self-expression, exchange, reflection, imagination, emotion, understanding, learning, awareness, wonder, and the list goes on.

So I have tried to touch on all those things in this program, embracing a variety of styles and forms in the hope that together, audience and performers, we can create a special moment in time and place which sends us back out into the world buoyed, recharged and revitalised in our trust and belief in the essential beauty of the human spirit.'

The Sonata Project

In the inaugural concert, three sonatas are composed by our rising stars Aristea Mellos, Jane Stanley and Melody Eötvös. The fourth work is by internationally renowned and much-loved composer Ross Edwards.

6:15pm for pre-concert activities
7pm for concert

My audience will be irresistibly drawn into deep appreciation for these new works through the commentary of the composers and my demonstration.

The Fazioli concert grand on which I will play provides me with all the colour, the clarity of tone and robustness required of the music to bring them to life. It is truly a beautiful instrument.

A most exciting aspect of the first Sonata Project concert is the convergence of a variety of leading Australian creative minds. I have a most visionary and enterprising support team that is overseeing the concert’s development and ensuring its success. Together, we will recreate an atmosphere of joy and excitement for the future of music and live performance that people experienced in the salon concerts of the romantic-composer pianists of the past.

And finally, I have recorded all these works to a CD called Crossing Boundaries. It is produced by Tall Poppies and will be launched on the night! Thank you to Peter Rejto, my engineer and Belinda Webster, my producer.

Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival 2017

FESTIVAL 2017
March 12–19, 2017

When you love chamber music, the opportunity to experience all it has to offer within a short period is significant and memorable. The juxtaposition of well-known pieces and unexplored compositions over the course of a week during which brilliant musicians come to the stage in different arrangements is a unique opportunity.

The 25th Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival, under the thoughtful direction of Artistic Director Peter Rejto, reveals the full range, skill, and artistry of the world-class musicians who we are proud to host.

Open rehearsals enable you to get behind the scenes. A youth concert brings chamber music to the community. Master classes enable the amateur and the curious to learn from the best. And a gala dinner and concert offers the opportunity to combine food and chamber music.
